Choose fabrics for a good rest

HOW TO CHOOSE THE TYPE OF FABRIC TO ENSURE BETTER REST

Globalization has offered us low-cost products and has therefore also accustomed us to sheets, pillowcases and quilts within the reach of every pocket.

Very often, however, these products use synthetic fabrics (e.g. microfibre, synthetic petroleum derivative) and/or lower quality fibers and materials.

Also pay attention to the origin, because non-EU productions are not subject to the strict protocols for the use of some dyes and chemical products which are no longer allowed in Europe.

1. NATURAL FIBERS vs SYNTHETIC FIBERS

Synthetic fibres  they have many negative aspects, they are not breathable and make you sweat more while maintaining humidity on the body,  when washed these fabrics produce more pellets and are more polluting for the environment. Compared to the only advantage of ease of ironing, unfortunately they are not ideal products for contact with the human body and healthy rest.

Natural fibres  they come from cotton, linen, hemp, wool and silk. These are therefore products of vegetal or animal origin therefore defined as natural. They are ideal for contact with the human body and breathable. The products obtained with the use of these fibers maintain, if well cared for, softness and freshness, improving the quality of sleep.

 2. QUALITY  &  SEASONALITY OF FABRICS

To sleep well, the choice of fabrics is essential. There are specific materials for each season that provide comfort and ensure the optimal temperature during the night .

FOR SUMMER

COTTON MUSLIN

It is a very thin cotton yarn, also known as egg skin due to its extraordinary lightness, optimal in summer due to its high breathability on the skin thanks to the thin and soft yarns. Muslin sheets lie on your body providing you with the best comfort in the warm months.

Garment care (sheets and duvet covers): wash at 40°.

FOR THE WINTER

COTTON FLANNEL

Characterized by the typical plush surface on one or both sides, cotton flannel is one of the warmest and softest fabrics ever. Resistant but light, thanks to its particular workmanship it retains air well, acting as an excellent thermal insulator. For a soft and delicate hug. A good flannel has at least 40 threads per cm2 but has a larger diameter than cotton fabric.

Garment care (sheets and duvet covers): wash at 40°.

ALL THE YEAR

COTTON CANVAS

If you prefer a more uniform surface suitable for all seasons, you can opt for 100% pure cotton sheets. Lightweight, resistant to washing, cotton is able to absorb humidity and provide freshness in the summer months and warm well-being in the cold season. A good cotton fabric has at least 50 threads per cm2.

Garment care (sheets and duvet covers): wash at 60° in the case of cotton finishes/seams and light colored dyes/designs, otherwise at 40°.

COTTON PERCALE

Cotton percale is a fabric obtained from the interweaving of thin and dense yarns, which give a feeling of freshness on the skin. These very resistant sheets are more valuable than cotton canvas ones because they have a higher thread count and a crisp feel. Their versatility makes them excellent for all seasons. A good percale has at least 80 threads cm2 (200 TC).

Garment care (sheets and duvet covers): wash at 60° in the case of cotton finishes/seams and light colored dyes/designs, otherwise at 40°.

COTTON SATIN

Cotton woven to give the typical shiny appearance, silk-like and uniform shiny surface, the cotton sateen will make your bed shine with style. The hand is smooth and soft and is great for retaining body temperature but also breathable. A good satin has at least 100 threads cm2 (300 TC).

Garment care (sheets and duvet covers): wash at 60° in the case of cotton finishes/seams and light colored dyes/designs, otherwise at 40°.
